Another one in the books! The 74th World Championship Pack Burro Race is a wrap, with Buttercup and Marvin Sandoval taking the top spot of the long course for the second consecutive year and fourth time overall.

The photo finish this year, however, was for second place with Yukon and Bob Sweeney as the runners-up.

Crowds were out in droves, starting with Friday night’s free concert on 5th street. In the five or so years of attending Burro Days regularly, I’ve never seen the streets of Fairplay so crowded.

Transitioning from landscapes to sports can be tricky sometimes. Even though I felt slightly off my game this year I managed to pull off a couple dozen or so images of both the Llama and Pack Burro Races.

It’s always exciting to cheer on the finishers and celebrate their amazing accomplishment. Next year is already promising to be a doozy for the 75th anniversary. Start making your plans now!
