The word “bliss” would be an understatement for the mornings witnessed in Belize. This one is particularly dear as it was experienced from Sittee Point south of Hopkins Village. A place we like to call our second home.
Belize in and of itself is quite the magical little country with so much to explore, that each place I’ve experienced needs its own share. And you will be getting to experience more of it through my lens.
Hopkins Village
A place where smiles flourish, the sound of drums are bountiful and the Caribbean sea air is always caressing the streets. This small coastal village is one of the most colorful, friendliest and contagious I’ve ever been to. Though Hopkins has grown quite a bit in the last few years, it’s still a place to cherish with a small fishing village vibe.
Hopkins is chock full of culture and flavor. If you ever visit, don’t be shy to try some traditional Garifuna cuisine. My favorite is Hudut and of course, you can never go wrong with a plate of whole fried snapper with a fry jack. If you’re visiting the area and you want some recommendations, don’t hesitate to connect with me. I’ll be happy to give you a few.
Just a stone’s throw from the main road is the coast, the beach, the Caribbean Sea and a number of restaurants, bars, vacation stays, as well as residential homes. Depending on where in town you are, you’ll find either sandy stretches or break walls. But regardless of where you find yourself in Hopkins, you’re almost always guaranteed a good time.
Sittee Point and Shallow Bay
Sittee Point is a community south of Hopkins Village. It connects with Sittee River Road, the Maringa and the river as a whole. From here, the river ends and meets the sea. Here you also get to enjoy a bit of the lush jungle on the other side of the river.
We spend a lot of our time here when in Belize. As digital nomads, we work when we’re exploring abroad. Where we stay is usually where we work and spend a good chunk of our time. Luckily for us, the beautiful Shallow Bay is just steps away.
Shallow Bay is exactly as it sounds, shallow. You can typically walk for a quarter mile in the water before you reach your waist. The water is warm, crystal clear with a green hue in the mornings and typically wavy and darker blue later in the day. This area is also tranquil and though many live here, the docks and beach areas are usually fairly empty, perfect for us.
It’s hard not to appreciate the deep gratitude I have for finding this place and most of all the friendships we’ve made over the years.
Morning Moments, Perfectly Situated
Mornings are my favorite time of day in Sittee. The sun shines through the windows early, making it easy for me to create images of the sunrise. Very few sights give me as much joy to play with as the sun rising over a serene sea, stroking the top of palms and glistening over the sand.
This morning was one of those “right place at the right time.” The sun was perfectly situated between my favorite palms to experiment on as a foreground.
